The Importance Of Being Earnest

Performing as Algernon Moncrieff in "The Importance of Being Earnest" presented many exciting opportunities and challenges. Performing in the round required equal attention to the audience on all sides.

Portraying Algernon, who is essentially Oscar Wilde himself, meant I had numerous lines, so being off script before rehearsals allowed me to explore his layers. This challenging role demanded attention to detail, from my heightened RP accent to period-appropriate physicality and gestures.

I considered Algernon's social climbing past and applied Laban efforts to enhance his physicality. His lightness, dexterity, and confident manner emerged.
